Coorg or Kodagu is in the Western Ghats of south western Karnataka. Prior to 1956 it was an administratively separate Coorg State. Madikeri or Mercara is the headquarters of Coorg or Kodagu.

Kodagu is known for its coffee and its people. The people include indigenous (Kodavas) and other ethnic groups (Arabashe Gowdas and Kodava subgroups). The chief languages presently spoken in Kodagu are Kodava, Are Bhashe, Kannada, Tulu, Konkani, Malayalam and Urdu. Kodagu is home to the native speakers of the Kodava language.

A beautiful place and lovely people who are friendly and fun loving it is worth going over to Coorg and enjoy the beauty of the Nature and its tranquillity.

A visit to Coorg is never complete without a visit to Bylakupe and the beautiful Tibetan monsteries located there.
