These photographs were taken during a performance by Ms. Lavanya Shankar to pay homage to her Bharatanatyam Dance Guru the legendary (Late) Ms. K J Sarasa. This programme was organized by some of the senior disciples of the Guru on February 07 and 08, 2013.
I have already uploaded albums of photographs of other artists who performed on this occasion such as:
Ms. Sailaja, Ms. Srekala Bharath, Mr. A Lakshman, Ms. Urmila Satyanarayanan, Mr. Shanmuga Sundaram and Ms. Kavitha Ramu.
Lavanya started Bharatanatyam dancing at an young age of four and was trained by the legendary Bharatanatyam Guru – K J Sarasa. She had her “Arangetram” at the age of 7 and since then has given more than 500 performances both on national and International platforms.
She is an experienced, accomplished and an outstanding Bharatanatyam artist.
Lavanya has won many awards and titles and the notable one being the “Yuva Kala Bharathi” This prestigious award is given every year to honour the outstanding youth in art by the cultural organization, "Bharat Kalachar"
She runs a Bharatanatyam Dance Academy “Abhyasa” in Coimbatore to train aspiring Bharatanatyam dancers. She is also a part of the faculty at “Arsha Vidya Gurukulam” the centre started by Swami Dayanand Saraswathi to impart cultural education to children.
“The Hindu” which is a leading English language newspaper of India ran an article on March 2009 titled “Dancing Queen”. Nothing could have described this artist more aptly.
