Earlier I had posted an album of photographs of the Tanjavur Brihadeeshwara temple complex. In this album I present a set of photographs of some of the statues in this temple. These statues have been carved out of solid hard rock and are of intricate details.
As in the case of the South Indian dynasties such as the Pallavas, Pandyas, Vijayanagara, Hoysala etc dynasties no part of the temple walls or columns are left blank but are filled with carvings of intricate and fascinating details.
There are thousands of such statues in the Tanjavur Brihadeeshwara temple and I have photographed only a few due to time constraints.
