Pushkarni or Holy Tank. Many of the South Indian Temples invariably have a a temple tank. The temple tank not only served the purpose of a water reservoir for the pilgrims to have a holy dip before entering the temple but also as a catchment for water, water harvesting and as means of recharging the under ground aquifers.

This is one of the many holy tanks in Hampi thoughtfully built by the Kings of the mighty Vijaynagara Empire.

Enjoy the pictures.
