I had mentioned before in an earlier mail about the Tamil month of Margazhi. This is roughly the period December 15 to January 15. The weather in the State of Tamil Nadu is it's best and the residents of the city of Chennai enjoy cool weather with temperatures around 75 to 80 deg F. The ozone layer is also closest to the earth these days in the early hours of the morning and this also is a trigger for a heavy dose of early morning prayers.

This is the time when the classical music and dance performances open up in the various auditoriums which are organized by associations known as "Sabhas". The events that are laid out are not only classical music from the top artists but also those who are budding and aspiring to make a mark on the stage. So also the dance forms such as "Bharatanatyam", "Kuchipudi", "Kathak", "Kathakali", Oddissi, local folk dances etc., from experienced and not so experienced artist. It is estimated that there about 2000 plus performances in terms of music, dance, lectures, lec - dems, workshops etc during an eight weeks period staring from as early as December 01, 2012 to the end of January 2013.

I had the opportunity to attend many classical dance and performances and present here the first set of photographs of a workshop tilted: Epic Women. Many scholars spoke about the women in our epics - Sita in the Ramayana and others such as Ahalya, Tara and Mandodari (from the Ramayana) and Draupadi and Kunti from the Mahabharat.

Please enjoy the pictures.
