This place is full of rocks of different shapes and sizes. Some of them are of gigantic proportions.
The availability of rocks in abundance here was a source of continuous supply of the raw material for the Vijaynagara architecture to take shape. If all the rocks here are collected and weighed it would probably be over several million tonnes. It is my surmise that possibly there was intense volcanic activity here several million years ago and the lava cooled down to hard rock in its present day form in terms of boulders and sheets that slope down a rocky hillock.
But who placed these rocks & boulders the way these are seen now?
Nobody but Nature. Over millions of years wind, rain and sunshine – the natural elements of nature slowly worked on the top soil exposing the rocky surfaces and thanks to the combination of the elements and the fault lines on the rocks the cracks formed and thus the never ending boulder formation of different sizes and shapes and precariously located.
